Empirestateofmind heads our ratings at 86 and gets the nod in a open-looking Class 5 over eight furlongs at Musselburgh, with the good to soft ground offering no obvious reason to doubt him. The biggest threat is Tolstoy, just a pound behind on 85 and so very much in the same bracket, while Barley (80) and Ablon (78) are the other two who could take advantage if he is below his best. Those two sit several pounds adrift, which gives our selection a modest but real cushion over the chasing pack. This is a competitive contest and confidence is low, but Empirestateofmind is the choice.
