Local Lad is preferred over the top-rated Vlhova on the strength of a progressive profile that suggests there is more to come from him over this eight-furlong trip on good ground at Listowel, and that upward trajectory gives reason to believe he can overturn a two-pound deficit on the day. Vlhova remains the most obvious threat given her ratings advantage, while Zaraahmando and Majestic King are capable of making their presence felt in what looks an open and competitive eighteen-runner heat. Confidence is modest in such a large field, but the case for a horse still improving is a sound one. Local Lad is our selection.
