Horse Racing Tips for Monday

Monday’s racing comes from Lingfield and Newbury, with a mix of competitive handicaps and some promising younger horses on show. Bryan Rogers has picked out several runners who look well treated by the handicapper, along with a few each-way value plays at bigger prices. There are also a handful of horses dropping in class or returning to more suitable conditions, which could prove key. Here are Bryan’s selections for the day.

Lingfield Racing tips

Dropping in class and now looking well handicapped, Virtue Patience gets a great opportunity to return to winning ways. With David Probert in the saddle, he gets the verdict in the opener.

ChatGPT Nap of the Day

It’s a wide-open race, but Lingfield is a tricky track where course experience and race positioning count for plenty. Southbank has been a little unlucky here on a few occasions and now gets the services of Rossa Ryan, one of the best riders around the track.

Southbank has been knocking on the door and looks capable of winning a race of this nature. He takes a while to hit top gear, but with very little obvious pace in the contest, I can’t see anything getting too far ahead of him. Given his liking for the track and the jockey booking, 7/2 looks a fair price for a horse with a strong chance of going very close.

15:17 Lingfield
The Marco Botti yard is in good form and their runner Tomarlo gets the vote once again. After two runs on the all-weather, the switch back to turf could unlock further improvement.

15:52 Lingfield
Ryan Moore takes the ride on Mrair, who looks extremely difficult to oppose. He is expected to prove a class above these rivals, although the odds are likely to be very short.

16:27 Lingfield
Kennington caught the eye when staying on strongly despite showing signs of inexperience on debut. With that run under his belt, and this being only his second start, he looks to hold a strong each-way chance.

17:00 Lingfield
The most open race on the card closes proceedings, but Portman Blue appeals as a decent each-way option. He ran well last time but had little luck in running and could be rewarded with a better passage today.

Newbury

14:15 Newbury
The opening two-year-old contest can go the way of Scommessa Sicura, who ran well when finishing second last time out. The step up to 7f looks certain to suit and she has every chance of going one better.

14:50 Newbury
After slipping to a more workable mark, The Third Star looks interesting. The move up to 1 mile for the first time could bring about further improvement and he rates a good each-way play.

15:25 Newbury
Following two very good runner-up efforts, Sea Cookie has an excellent chance to finally get his head in front. A strongly run race could play perfectly to his strengths and he gets the win verdict.

16:00 Newbury
A competitive race, but The Feminine Urge looks capable of making an impact. Now down to a mark of 62, Ashley Lewis’s runner has a live each-way chance and could be ready to strike.

16:35 Newbury
The drop in grade could be the key for Baileys Khelstar. If allowed to dictate from the front, he may prove difficult to catch. He has been running consistently well in stronger races and can go close.

17:10 Newbury
Twisting Physics has a solid record at Newbury and can be forgiven his last two starts. His victory here three runs ago has worked out well, and with Jamie Spencer booked, he looks capable of returning to winning ways.
