Carvalhal makes a compelling case having produced his sharpest effort in a year when landing a handicap last time by 2l — the run prior saw him close up in second — and the 6lb higher mark looks fair reward for form that is firmly on the up. Roman Harry and Dinamine are the main dangers; the former may respond to first-time cheekpieces on his return, while Dinamine’s latest effort is easy to forgive given he ran the very next day after a third-placed finish on softened ground, and he looks a different proposition on a sounder surface. Secret Magician, dropping back from an excessive trip, also merits respect. Carvalhal is our selection.
