RACING POST VERDICT

Maxident rates narrowly behind the top two on these figures but is preferred on the strength of a progressive profile that suggests there is more to come. Premiere Ligne and Scottish Anthem head the dangers as the highest-rated pair, while Believitanducan also warrants respect from a yard capable of placing a horse to advantage. The confidence level is modest, however, and punters should be aware this is a competitive staying heat on the Kempton polytrack. **Maxident** is our selection.

Our Expert Tip

We’re going for a big outsider in the lucky last. BARENBOIM is a massive 33/1, but there are definitely reasons to think he can outrun those odds. He’s won over course and distance off this mark before, and I thought he was unlucky enough last time out. At 33/1, I think it would be silly not to have a small each-way go. We don’t need him to be the most likely winner in the race at that sort of price — we just need him to run back to somewhere near his best form. The main danger for me is PREMIERE LIGNE at 11/1, who also looks overpriced.

But we’ll swing for the fences with BARENBOIM.
Can we land a big price in the lucky last?

Selection: BARENBOIM – Each Way 33/1
