RACING POST VERDICT

Chartwell Jock has finished placed in his two most recent handicap hurdle starts and looks to have mileage in his mark relative to useful Flat form; a trainer in excellent current form sends him out in first-time hood and, if he settles better than last time, he can be competitive. Phantom Gold is the main danger, having gone close off a lower mark at Southwell and looking as though an additional half-mile will suit; a bumper and point background points to stamina. Makinbecon landed this event at Newton Abbot from a lower mark and concedes weight all round, while Saucats was placed in the same race and could have a say. Chartwell Jock is our selection.
